Sandusky Sailing Club to Host 2024 Optimist National Championships!
The USODA is thrilled to announce that the Sandusky Sailing Club will host all three Class National Championships in 2024: Team Racing, July 23-25, Girls Nationals, July 26 and Fleet Nationals, July 27-30! Sailors are welcome to arrive at the Club beginning July 20th. The Class is eager to head back to the Midwest for the premier summer event for our sailors! Sandusky Sailing Club last hosted the USODA National Championships in 2012.
Founded in 1932, the Sandusky Sailing Club is located on the shores of Lake Erie in Sandusky, Ohio, about halfway between Cleveland and Toledo. They have an extremely practical clubhouse, large dry sail areas, four launching cranes, a ramp, and a growing marina with electricity and water for larger yachts, all on the beautiful, protected waters of the Sandusky Bay. The Club has active Learn to Sail and Junior Racing programs, racing series and cruising activities, as well as a large, outstanding, and dedicated group of race committee volunteers who are willing and eager to regularly sponsor national and international sailing events.
No trip to Sandusky is complete without a visit to the world-famous Cedar Point Amusement Park, renowned for its many roller coasters. Other nearby attractions include The Merry-Go-Round Museum which features a working vintage carousel and restored wooden animals and the Maritime Museum of Sandusky with exhibits on boatbuilding, shipwrecks and ice harvesting, all within the City of Sandusky which has seen a huge renaissance in the their social scene since its Bicentennial celebration in 2018.
Mark your calendars and start making your 2024 summer plans!
