The purpose of the USNT is to improve the level of Optimist sailing in the United States, by providing high level training to top US Optimist sailors who compete internationally. The team receives the best coaching available and is be able to practice against the best sailors in the country. The team also tries to improve the fitness of sailors.
Coaches are highly experienced Optimist-specific teachers, most of whom have extensive international racing experience. Past USNT sailors, who have competed internationally in the Optimist, are often also brought in to assist with training sessions.
All team members are expected to assist local learn to sail programs once per year in their home waters. Log in for the USNT schedule and forms, and to learn how your Optimist sailor can qualify for USNT membership.
The mission of the United States Optimist Development Program (ODP2) is to develop Team Trial Qualified sailors into top-level Optimist sailors by providing regionally-based opportunities for high-level practices with the top Optimist coaches.
